The manufacturer calls them ugly. I don't know, they look kind of cool to me. They're great for digging through clay and other hard packed soils. You know, like mine tailing piles. They have a 15'' oval shaft steel handles and ergonomic grips to make it easier on your hands while you find all those specimens. This one has a shovel head on one side and a cultivator on the other. Use the shovel end to dig down and break up the soil. Use the three tined rake end is used to drag through the loosened pile to find and pull out the specimens. The use the shovel end to clean out the waste material from your hole.
