This is a nice pocket sized book. It does a great job on describing rocks and minerals. What we like best about this book is that it uses drawing rather than pictures to show rocks and minerals. This makes it easier for the artist to bring out the details needed in macro identification. Most books use pictures of museum quality specimens. That's great if you find a museum qualiity specimen or want to see a more perfect specimen. The only problem is that we don't find museum quality specimens out in the field. Rocks and minerals, like everthing else you try to identify, can't read therefore they don't know what they're really supposed to look like.
